TOWN OF TURIN TOURNAMENT: HISTORY

We were in year 1987 the 26th of December, when, two friends fans of basket but, overall of mini basket, reunited around a table, getting ready to have dinner, began to talk about a sad incident, that affected the town of Turin on the 13th of February 1983, the fire of STATUTO cinema that cause the death of 64 persons that were inside.
This incident act so that many premises were closed for public for security reasons and among this premises, obviously also all the gymnasiums;
Thinking about all the children that used to practice sport and about their parents that couldn't any more watch match, the two friends had the idea to let children play in the open-air TOWN OF TURIN TOURNAMENT was born;

With the map of Turin in their hands, the two fiends began to plan where, when and how to apply their idea. They choose as a place the Crocetta pedestrian area (among other things that everybody opposed ) and as date the 25th and 26th of May of new year that was beginning;
The day after, the two friends were working, preparing all the licences and requests near by organizations and schools in order to be able to have the necessary baskets (they have to recover 50 of them);
Alt was ready, thanks also to other friends that being enthusiastic about news, joined them to allow that on the 25th of May, along the streets of the Crocetta pedestrian area in front of Polytechnics, suddenly appear 25 pairs of baskets;

That was how, facing the incredulous eyes of hundreds of passers-by, began the first edition of TOWN OF TURIN TOURNAMENT.

It has been for little participants a real feast, but for the two fiends this has been the beginning of one among several other feasts that follows, consecrated to sport made of love, socialization, amusement and friendship.
